This Is What The New Kia Optima Will Look Like

Kia promises it will make you say “wow.”

Kia has been heavily focusing on SUVs lately, with the recent launch of the full-size Telluride and the upcoming Seltos compact SUV, which was recently caught completely undisguised. Don’t think, however, that Kia is abandoning the sedan segment. While the Optima has only been on the market for four years, Kia is already busy preparing an all-new version of its successful sedan.

Kia hasn’t teased the new Optima yet to give us an idea what it will look like, but Kia America’s Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President Michael Cole has promised the new design will make you say "wow,”much like the redesigned 2020 Hyundai Sonata did. Russian website Kolesa.ru has produced a new render imagining what the new Optima will look like, and while the design doesn’t blow us away, it looks very sleek.

The front and rear fascias have been given a refresh with slim headlights, a new grille similar to the Stinger’s and sleek taillights with a full-width LED light bar. The side mirrors have also been repositioned lower on the doors rather than on the A-pillar, which could lower wind noise and improve aero. It isn’t clear yet what changes will be made to the cabin, but sources have told TheKoreanCarBlog that the dashboard design will be inspired by the Telluride SUV.

The new Kia Optima is expected to be offered in the US with two turbocharged engines, including a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with two power levels. One will be equipped with an eight-speed automatic while the other will get a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The range-topping model, on the other hand, will reportedly use a 286-hp, 2.5-liter turbocharged engine with optional all-wheel drive and a new 8-speed dual clutch transmission. Kia hasn’t confirmed when the new Optima will debut, but the publication claims it will be revealed in September.
