And with a Koenigsegg V8? Sounds good.
We’ve long known that Spyker CEO Victor Muller has wanted to revive the D8 Peking To Paris super SUV. Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible for quite some time due to Spyker’s money problems, but things have been getting back on track lately. For example, Spyker and Koenigsegg just signed an engine agreement that sees the latter building a naturally aspirated 600 hp 5.0-liter V8 exclusively for the new C8 Preliator. Speaking to Autocar, Muller now says the D8 will be "an advanced hybrid SUV and one of the most beautiful cars of its kind.
“Its specifications are already set and, if things go well, I’d dream of showing it at the Geneva Motor Show in 2018." Going back to 2006, the D8 was originally called the D12 when it premiered at Geneva that year. How come? Because it was then powered by a Volkswagen W12 engine, but clearly that’s no longer the case. The new plan is to utilize the new Koenigsegg-built V8 and combine it with an electric motor for hybrid assist. If you recall, Spyker ended up losing its funding and was forced to return deposits to early customers. "It wasn’t a great experience and I’m resolved that we will never go through it again," Muller explained. He also fully acknowledges that he has a "reputation for spreading (the company’s) resources too thinly."
However, he added that "This is a lean and light company now. We need to focus on cars like the C8 Preliator, but we also have to plan for the future." Based on our own discussions with Muller and the new Koenigsegg engine agreement, it appears the Dutch boutique supercar company is through its financial woes and anxious to start afresh. The C8 Preliator, followed by the D8 Peking To Paris super SUV, are two excellent starts.
