If you like Mustangs, then you were utterly spoiled at this year’s SEMA tuning show in Las Vegas. Out of the plethora of modified Mustangs on display, the thanks to its 5.0 V8 engine tuned to produce a staggering 1,000 horsepower. Unfortunately, however, you can only tame it on the track as it isn’t road legal. If you’re a fan of vintage Mustangs, renowned tuner Roush has brought a custom concept car to the show inspired by the .
Dubbed the Roush 729, the concept is finished in a commemorative hue of Ford’s Grabber Green that pays tribute to the 95 Boss 429s that were painted this color in 1970. The Roush 729 wears a custom widebody kit designed by Roush and 3D-printed by Stratasys, and is fitted with various race-inspired carbon fiber parts developed by Anderson Composites including a front splitter and rear spoiler. Roush also teamed up with Vossen, which created custom RVS forged wheels wrapped in Continental ExtremeContact Sport rubber specifically designed to fit the 729’s widebody kit that house custom-painted Brembo GT Series brakes.
A three-way adjustable coilover suspension system allows for skid pad ratings of 1.07 lateral g’s. Under the hood is a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 and Roush’s new R2650 supercharger that increases the power to over 700 hp. Airflow to the 729’s engine is provided by a Roush cold air intake and a bespoke hood scoop aptly named the “Air Gobbler,” while an active quad-tip exhaust system allows the driver to tweak the sound of the 729. Inside, the interior features Recaro racing seats covered in custom Katzkin leather, a four-point racing harnesses, and a Watson roll cage. Roush isn’t selling the 729 as a standalone kit, but many of the same visual upgrades can be applied to production 2018 Roush Mustangs.
