Performance is key.
Earlier this year, the Polestar 2 was unveiled as a direct rival to the Tesla Model 3. There’s a lot we already know about Polestar’s first fully electric model. The launch edition will set you back $63,000 in the US when it goes on sale next year, while the all-wheel-drive drivetrain produces a total output of 400 horsepower and 487 lb-ft of torque, which will propel the electric sedan from 0-62 mph in five seconds. As for available options, Autoblog has learned the Polestar 2 will also have an optional performance pack.
Suspension manufacturer Öhlins announced that its adjustable suspension dampers will be featured in the performance package, which will include Öhlins-brand dual-flow-valve adjustable front struts and rear shock absorbers. According to Öhlins, these innovative dampers will enable owners to tailor chassis damping and ride quality according to the road condition or driving style.
"We are excited to introduce premium Ohlins suspension technologies to a new audience of discerning drivers through Polestar’s collaboration with Öhlins,” said Henrik Johansson, managing director at Ohlins Racing. "The Polestar 2 fastback is an exciting launch. 100% Electric. 100% Performance. And we are proud to be part of it.”
But that’s not all. Autoblog reached out to Polestar and learned the package will also include more powerful Brembo brakes, stickier tires, forged wheels, and additional Polestar trim pieces such as yellow seat belts like you get in the Volvo S60 Polestar Engineered.
More specific details haven’t been confirmed yet, and neither has the price. However, a Polestar representative told Autoblog the package will cost around $5,000, which means the Launch Edition will cost around $68,000 with the Performance Package installed. Cheaper models with less range are also expected to start from around $44,000, but Polestar hasn't said if the package will be available for base models.
