Lotus Making Bold Moves To Battle Porsche

Ever since the , Lotus has been reduced to selling just one model, the Evora. And while the Evora is just fine, we don't expect it to be able to compete with larger brands like Porsche all on its own. Under the ownership of Chinese automaker Geely, Lotus is set to with, a , and even a. Lotus needs help in order to build all of these new cars and , the company is already busy hiring new personnel.

Phil Popham, chief executive of Lotus said, "Lotus has been in survival mode for many years. We’re taking on people here and also in the Midlands. We need to tap into the industrial resource outside Norfolk to help our growth.” Lotus is hiring 200 new engineers as it plans to triple its production to 5,000 cars per year. This still is not a huge number but it is a nice step towards transforming Lotus back into a major automaker. Geely has invested nearly $2 billion to add development facilities and a new production plant in Wuhan, China (the company's first outside of the UK).

We still aren't sure exactly what order Lotus plans to reveal its new models. The company's new, more comfortable sports car is set to debut by the end of 2019, followed by the hypercar, which may arrive in 2020. Then, it's anyone's guess as to whether the next new model will be a sports car, sedan, or even an SUV. In any case, we are excited to see what Lotus has in store for the future.
