Let the countdown begin.

The is now in dealerships, but when will the highly anticipated pickup truck variant arrive? According to , who spoke with Fiat-Chrysler dealers, the Wrangler-based pickup will be in showrooms by next April, just over one year from now. FCA itself has declined to comment on the vehicle’s arrival. We previously knew Wrangler pickup production is set to get underway in the fourth quarter of this year, so a spring arrival makes sense.

Our spy photographers have already caught and despite the camouflage, they looked fairly production ready. Essentially, the Wrangler pickup, , is a Wrangler Unlimited four-door with a short bed. There’s no indication so far whether a two-door Scrambler will be on offer at a later date. What we can fairly assume at this time is the Scrambler’s engine options, expected to be the same as the rest of the Wrangler lineup. These engines consist of the familiar 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with 285-hp, the new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 268-hp, and the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 with an impressive 442 lb-ft of torque.

Details such as towing and payload capacity will be announced closer to the reveal, which could happen as soon as next November at the LA Auto Show. This won’t be the first time Jeep has offered a pickup truck; anyone remember the Cherokee-based Comanche? It was built from 1985 until 1992. Before that, there was the CJ-8 Scrambler, built from 1981 until 1986. Having another Jeep in the lineup will surely be welcomed by dealerships and even FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne hopes to see 100,000 Scramblers sold annually.
