Fiat 500X Blue Sky Edition Gives Compact Crossover A Mild Makeover

Special Edition

Fiat needs to do more than churn out new styling packages to remain relevant in the US.

Fiat has . The Italian automaker very rarely introduces new models any more, despite the fact the ageing 500 could really do with an upgrade. Instead, the automaker keeps churning out special edition versions of existing models nobody asked for or releasing new styling packages. Case in point: the 2018 Fiat 500X Blue Sky Edition. Available only for 2018 Fiat 500X pop models with the nine-speed automatic transmission, the optional Blue Sky Edition package adds a slew of visual enhancements.

New exterior features include automatic headlamps, fog lamps and 17-inch aluminum wheels. To give the compact crossover a more premium look, chrome accents have been applied to the mirror caps, door handles, body-side moldings, fog-lamp bezels, front and rear badges, tail lamp bezels and liftgate handle. Inside, the 500X Blue Sky Edition gets blue-patterned cloth seats, blue instrument panel and a dual-pane powered sunroof. “With all-wheel-drive confidence, best-in-class torque and room for five, the Fiat 500X is fun to drive and wrapped in iconic Italian design,” said Steve Beahm, FCA head of passenger cars.

“The new Blue Sky Edition offers yet another unique customization option for our Fiat 500X customers.” Four exterior colors will be available for the Blue Sky Edition: Bianco Gelato, Blue Sky Metallic, Nero Cinema, and Grigio Graphite. First launched in 2015, the Fiat 500X has struggled to gain sales traction in the competitive crossover segment. We doubt the new Blue Sky Edition will persuade people to rush to their nearest Fiat dealer, but Fiat is already working on a mid-cycle update in the hope of giving the 500X a new lease of life.
