At least it now fits inside posh Monaco parking garages.
Professional skier Jon Olsson is renowned for . Last year, he unveiled his heavily modified, winter-prepped Mercedes G500 4×4², but he soon encountered a first-world problem: it was too tall to fit in Monaco parking garages or even his own garage in his Spanish estate. So he did what anyone else would do in this situation: transform it into the . We saw a work in progress version late last year, .
Olsson wanted his G500 4×4² to stand out from the crowd, and it’s safe to say he’s accomplished that. Rather than cutting off the roof and leaving the pillars and side windows intact, everything above the top of the doors has been cut away apart from the windshield, which has been lowered.
Taking inspiration from the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, the rear deck is finished in teak. Like Olsson's other wild rides the exterior features a winter camo wrap. There's also been a massive power bump. While the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 delivers 422-horsepower in the standard SUV, it now pumps out 780 hp. An Akrapovic exhaust has also been fitted to make the mighty Mercedes sound even more menacing, and its ferocity can also be adjusted via an iPhone app. Don’t think it’s all for show, however. The suspension has been modified to make the G-Class even more capable off-road, and the roofless G-Class can now transport palm trees and boxes with ease as Olsson demonstrates in the video, so it’s both brash and practical.
