All-American Hybrid Hypercar Revealed With 1,150 Horsepower


Say hello to America’s new hypercar aiming to rival the likes of Bugatti and Koenigsegg.

After , at the LA Auto Show Aria Group has unveiled the FXE, an all-American hypercar that aims to take on its established European rivals like Bugatti and Koenigsegg. The hypercar is currently still in development, but the specifications that the Californian company is touting show a lot of potential. Slated to go on sale in 2019, two variants will be available. The FE will be powered by a mid-mounted, naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter V8, but Aria hasn’t specified how much power it will send to the rear wheels.

It’s the range-topping Aria FXE that has our attention, however. According to Aria, the FXE adopts a hybrid setup consisting of a 720-hp V8 and a pair of axial-flux induction electric motors providing an additional 540 hp, resulting in a total output of around 1,150 hp and 1,316 lb-ft of torque. A 10-kilowatt-hour battery powers the front wheels, and an eight-speed sequential gearbox will route the combustion engine's output to the rear wheels. Aria estimates that the FXE will sprint from 0-60 mph in 2.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 210 mph. It will also be built on a carbon-fiber monocoque and feature lightweight carbon fiber body panels. 3D titanium components will help shed further weight.

Only 400 examples of the Aria FE and FXE are going to be built, with deliveries commencing in late 2019. As for the asking price, Aria wants to be "very competitive" against its hypercar rivals. Each car will be built according to customer specifications so prices will vary, but the average price of the American hypercar is tipped to be around $1 million.
