2019 Alpina XD3 Is For Those Who Can't Wait For The BMW X3 M

0-62 mph takes just 4.9 seconds.

Set to debut at next week's Geneva Motor Show, Alpina has revealed its latest souped-up BMW X3 SUV. The 2019 Alpina XD3 represents the fastest version of the X3 yet – at least until the . Based on the diesel-powered X3, Alpina has given the mid-size SUV a serious power boost. Under the hood, the XD3 is powered by a quad-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six diesel engine with common-rail high-pressure direct injection producing 388 hp and a monumental 567 lb-ft of torque.

The 3.0-liter unit is paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and BMW’s xDrive intelligent AWD system, which has been reconfigured to feature an “Alpina specific torque distribution.” Alpina claims this provides neutral driving dynamics and high levels of traction. The result of these mechanical modifications? The German tuner claims that the 2019 XD3 can accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 4.6 seconds and hit a top speed of 165 mph. Those are some impressive performance figures for a midsize SUV - let alone a diesel-powered one. This must be one of, if not the, fastest diesel-powered SUVs currently available.

Right-hand drive models will pack a less potent twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six diesel engine with 333 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Performance is still impressive: 0-62 mph takes 4.9 seconds, while the top speed is 157 mph. In addition, the XD3 is fitted with Alpina sport suspension featuring electronically adjustable dampers and an active rear limited differential to improve the handling. As standard, the performance SUV rides on 20-inch Alpina wheels. Optional 22-inch lightweight forged wheels are also available. Alpina says the 2019 XD3 will go on sale in Q2 2018, with deliveries starting early next year. No word on US availability, but it seems unlikely.
