But it's not a turbo V6.
Right now at this year’s Chicago Auto Show, there’s a new Chevrolet Traverse trim making its official debut. Meet the 2019 Traverse RS, offering bits of sportier exterior styling and an interesting choice under the hood. The exterior features a blacked-out grille, window trim, roof rails and bowtie emblems. The 20-inch aluminum wheels also feature a Dark Android finish. As for that interesting engine choice, the Traverse RS is the first Traverse model to come powered by a turbocharged engine, specifically the direct-injected EcoTec 2.0-liter turbo four.
It produces a total of 257 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. . However, both engines share the same nine-speed automatic transmission. Despite being less powerful, the new RS delivers better fuel economy with an estimated 20/26 mpg city/highway. However, the RS is front-wheel drive only whereas V6 models can be equipped with all-wheel drive. Other standard features include an 8-inch diagonal color touchscreen and navigation, OnStar 4G LTE data, Jet Black leather seating surfaces, heated front seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, Bose 10-speaker audio system, and power liftgate.
Standard safety tech is impressive as well, with lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, surround vision, rear camera and teen driver are all there. As with all Traverse models, the second- and third-row seats can fold flat allowing for even greater cargo space when required. The 2018 Chevrolet Traverse RS begins at $43,095, excluding tax and should be on sale right now.
